About Transpersonal Art Therapy

Transpersonal art therapy is a holistic approach that supports self-discovery, emotional wellbeing, and a deeper connection to self.

It moves beyond language and everyday thinking, using reflection and creative expression to explore inner experience.

Hello, I'm Jo.

I’m a transpersonal art therapist and watercolour artist based in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

My work is deeply influenced by nature, creativity, and the belief that art can offer a gentle pathway to self-discovery, reflection, and emotional wellbeing.

My Approach

I see art therapy as a process of listening — to thoughts, emotions, imagery, and what may be difficult to express in words.

Art becomes a way of giving form to what is not yet spoken.

This process is gentle, intuitive, and unfolds at its own pace.

What “Transpersonal” Means

The word transpersonal refers to an awareness of self that extends beyond the thinking mind and personal identity.

It includes a sense of connection to something larger — whether that is nature, meaning, creativity, or inner presence. In therapeutic work, this means we are not only working with problems or symptoms, but with the deeper experience of being human.

The Heart of This Work

At the heart of this work is space. Space to slow down, listen inwardly, and allow what is present to emerge without pressure or expectation.

This is not about producing something or finding immediate answers, but about developing a gentle relationship with your inner experience over time.

In this space, art becomes a companion for reflection — a way of noticing, expressing, and making sense of what is unfolding within you.

There is no right way to create here.

Only presence, curiosity, and willingness.

Art, Nature & the Creative Process

In my practice, I often draw on the natural world as a grounding and reflective presence.

Nature offers rhythm, metaphor, and a sense of perspective that can support inner exploration.

Combined with intuitive creative expression and reflection, it allows insight to emerge in a way that is felt, not forced.

A Gentle Invitation

You do not need any experience with art or therapy to begin. Curiosity and a willingness to explore are enough.
