Drawing with Nature

An immersive creative workshop exploring drawing, observation, and mark-making in direct response to the natural world.

Designed for beginners and experienced artists wanting to slow down, reconnect with how they see, and develop a more intuitive and expressive drawing process through nature.

What you will explore

This workshop invites you to slow down and engage with the natural world through observation and drawing. You will explore how to see more deeply, respond intuitively, and translate what you notice into simple, expressive marks.

Working both in nature and with gathered natural materials, you will experiment with line, texture, and form, allowing your drawings to become a direct response to place and presence.

Who this workshop is for

This workshop is for those who feel drawn to slow, mindful drawing and a deeper way of observing the natural world.

It is suitable for beginners, as well as those with some drawing experience who want to move away from perfectionism and reconnect with a more intuitive and expressive approach to mark-making.

You may be someone who feels creatively blocked, unsure where to start, or simply longing for a more present and connected way of creating.

What to bring / what is provided

You are invited to bring a sketchbook and any drawing materials you enjoy working with, such as pencils, charcoal, or pens. If you are unsure, simple materials will be suggested prior to the workshop.

Some natural materials may also be gathered during the experience and used for mark-making and exploration.

All additional workshop materials will be provided, along with guidance throughout the session.

Workshop structure

Drawing with Nature is offered as a full-day workshop and can be offered one-to-one or in small groups of up to four participants.

The workshop may include time spent outdoors observing, gathering, sketching, and creating with natural materials. Experiences may move between outdoor and indoor spaces, allowing the workshop to respond to weather conditions on the day.

Each workshop is responsive to the season, location, and participants, allowing space for curiosity, exploration, and creative discovery.

Why this workshop

Many people believe drawing is about accurately reproducing what they see. While observation is an important part of the process, drawing can also be a way of slowing down, paying attention, and developing a deeper relationship with the natural world.

Drawing with Nature invites participants to move beyond perfectionism and outcome-focused creating. Through observation, curiosity, and experimentation, the workshop encourages a more intuitive and responsive way of working, where the process itself becomes just as valuable as the finished piece.

By spending time immersed in nature, participants often discover that drawing becomes less about getting it right and more about connection, presence, and creative flow.

What you will leave with

Participants will leave with a collection of sketches, drawings, and creative explorations developed throughout the workshop, along with ideas and approaches that can be continued at home.

More importantly, they will leave with a deeper appreciation for the natural world, greater confidence in their own creative process, and practical ways to use observation, curiosity, and experimentation as part of their ongoing art practice.
